Why Does Everything Cost More?
Genealogical research, as well as every thing else, costs more in large urban areas like Philadelphia. City government departments, desperate to improve their budgets, have pushed up the fees that they charge. Parking in the city starts at $2.00 an hour and can escalate quickly to a daily total of $20 to $24.
Urban research is expensive, not just in terms of money, but in terms of time also. The massive number of people who lived in Philadelphia over the last few hundred years means that the urban genealogist has to look through thousands of more names to find the one you want. A lot of time is wasted during the day dealing with big city bureaucracy, driving between repositories in different parts of the city, and searching for a place to park.
For these reasons you can expect your project to cost more dollars per hour and take more hours to complete, whether you or your hired professional do the work.
